This Post is to warn you about a Law firm if you are looking for a Lawyer in Houston. If S.Ligon & Associates Law Firm sends you an advertised Letter wanting to represent you, Please throw it away. I was recently represented by Stephen Ligon (Attorney AT Law) in 2009. I called the number on the Advertised Letter from S. Ligon & Associates Law Firm, to shop for their prices in Legal assistance. I explained to Stephen Ligon my case and he sounded so confident like he had this type of case and that I would not have to worry about nothing at all because he was sure to get my case dismissed. He quoted a price to me $900 .00. Then he said he would give me a discount, The amount would be $600 .00 (and he will get my case dismissed). He scheduled a day for me to meet with him in person at his office so that he could discuss my case further with me. I went in the office and likely, he was not in the office. He did not want to discuss my case, instead he called on the phone to his secretary to ask me to leave my payment for him ( I was upset, but kept calm). Then as he stated that I need to Leave $200 more dollars than we quoted over the phone). I told him I will not pay extra and I will not leave the full amount right now. So he is having a conversation with me (over the phone) He then agreed for me to just pay him what I had then. My court date was 3 weeks away. I have been calling since I left payment with him, to see what is going on with my case! Everyday I called I was told by the secretary that he was not in the office everytime I called. The day before my court date he did not call me, instead he had his secretary call me and she said the lawyer said that for me to be ready for court tommorow and have the balance. On the court day He showed up an hour and half late (after the judge read the names). He came over and asked me do I have the balance (what???) I was furious, he had not told me where my case was at this point and whats going to happened or even apologized for not returning my calls ( but he did not hesitate to ask for money) I gave him $ 100.00 ( and said thats all I had) and after I did that he was like, We are going to reset your case.. (whaaat???) So for about almost a month and a half the same thing went on. He was hard to get in contact with, he would leave his secretary to do his work for him. So about a few weeks after the month and a half. He said that he can not get my case dismissed because the prosecuter did not beieve me. Okay I am paying this Lawyer my money to represent me, and he tells me what the prosecuter says. Are you serious thats the point of having a lawyer, He was supose to argue my case and fight for me. He acted like he was scared to asked the DA questions, He was scared to disagree with them. This Lawyer is young and all he wants is your money. I have never ever in my life been in trouble with the law, Never. Because, of his lack of representation I have to do a sentance of 9 months of probation. Now I know thats not hard time but I have already served the time in jail. My choices were Timed Served (with a fine) or Probation plus fees and fines. Since I did not want to have this on my record I took the Probation. But I could have gotten these terms by myself with a court Appointed Lawyer instead of Paying S. Ligon & Associates Law firm who does not try to go against the prosecuter for you. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY OR GET ANOTHER LAWYER THAT WILL FIGHT FOR YOU. NOT A LAWYER WHO IS ALWAYS LATE TO COURT, AND HAS YOUR MONEY but do not return your calls!!!! THIS LAWYER WILL TRY TO SELL YOU A WISH AND A DREAM!!! Believe me I know.
Another thing I asked him why I could never get in touch with him, he told me because he is a really busy Lawyer, lol that is a lie. For all the 7 times I had to go to court he only had me as a client and he was late every time. While I veiwed other Lawyers, they were always on time and there to answer roll call names for their clients and they always had more than 2 or 3 clients to answer for. I wonder why ?????
